Visit the Adirondacks on the Cheap

A vacation to the Adirondack Mountains can be quite expensive or it can be a budget friendly vacation; it’s really up to you. While a romantic trip to the Adirondack region might be more expensive, there’s no reason a family vacation can’t be affordable for most families. With plenty of activities for children and tons of outdoor recreation, most families can afford a vacation to the Adirondacks.

Budget Friendly Activities

Festivals occur several times throughout the year in the Adirondacks and many of them offer free admission. The Balloon Festival, which takes place each September offers free admission and it is a thrill to watch dozens of balloons glide over the mountains. Other activities, such as the Washington County Fair, which takes place each August, offers free admission to children under 14 years of age, as long as they are with a paying adult. Visit the Chamber of Commerce website in the area you are visiting to look for other free or low cost events and activities for families.

Save Money and Have Fun Camping

Camping offers one of the most budget friendly vacations and in the scenic Adirondacks, you have a plethora of choices when it comes to camping. That way, the whole family can hike, fish, and take advantage of the outdoor recreation at little to no cost. By saving money on hotels, you can then participate in more of the activities that do cost money, like renting a kayak or canoe or even renting bicycles and riding the trails.

All Inclusive Resorts

Families visiting the Adirondacks on a budget should also consider all inclusive resorts. While the per night stay might seem a bit pricey at first, many of these resorts offer a wide range of activities free to their guests. Instead of renting watercraft for 30 minutes or an hour, the family can stay on the water all day and rentals will be included in the price of the room. You and the kids can swim or go canoeing and take advantage of the other activities the resort offers without blowing your budget.

Stay in a Place with a Kitchenette

Food is by far one of the most expensive aspects of any vacation and a vacation in the Adirondacks is no exception. Consider renting a suite or a room with a kitchenette so you can cook your own meals or at least be able to buy and refrigerate sandwich meat and condiments. By preparing your own meals, you will save enough to be able to participate in some of the activities that may be a little pricey for your budget. Having to eat out each meal gets expensive in a hurry so this is a creative way to afford a vacation in the majestic Adirondacks.
