The Adirondack Balloon Festival, which takes place in September is an exciting event that is offered to the public free of charge. The Balloon Festival has its opening ceremonies in Crandall Park in the city of Glens Falls and then more than 60 balloons will launch from the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport. The festival takes place over 4 days and offers activities for kids, worship services, music, and food and beverages. Those who wish to actually ride in a balloon may do so by paying a fee.
Washington County Fair
August brings the Washington County Fair just south of the Adirondacks. This is a super family outing as the fair offers rides, shows, special events, and scrumptious fair food. This is a great event for the family on a budget as admission for adults is only $10 and kids under 14 are free, as is the parking as well as seating for all grandstand entertainment. The Washington County Fair has been a large part of the Adirondack experience for over a century and offers something for every member of the family.
Adirondack Oktoberfest
More than six million people each year visit Oktoberfest in the Adirondacks for food, fun, music, and gondola rides. Now in its 18th year, Oktoberfest is a Lake Placid tradition that brings guests from all over. There are plenty of activities for kids and adults and there are always plenty of craft vendors as well. Don’t miss the exciting German music and food and ride the gondola to the summit of Little Whiteface.
Great Adirondack Days
Great Adirondack Days encompasses numerous festivals and events throughout the summer in the region around Lake Saranac, which isn’t far from Lake Placid. Just some of the events that are covered under the umbrella of Great Adirondack Days is the Fourth of July weekend, Runabout Rendezvous, which features, among other events, the Rhubarb Festival and the Can Am Rugby Tournament, and the Saranac Lake Block Party. There’s something for everyone throughout the summer at Saranac Lake and Great Adirondack Days.
Winter Carnival
The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival has been a staple of the Adirondack region for more than 100 years. The Carnival is a 10 day festival that takes place in February of each year and includes activities for children and adults alike. You can look forward to music, dance, sporting activities, fireworks, parades, and tons of food. Various dinners and events are spaced throughout the festival so there is something for everyone to enjoy. You’ll be able to purchase crafts, stuff yourself on BBQ, watch performances, such as figure skating, and you might even participate in the snowshoe races. Winter Carnival is a time the town comes together and celebrates, and tourists go back year after year for the special event.
